Biotechnology at Milwood

Biotechnology Partners

The Biotechnology Partners Program connects Milwood Magnet School's students, school, and community to the world of biotechnology. With the help of community organizations, companies, colleges, and universities, the Biotechnology Partners Program offers students hands-on, career-oriented experience. This program's emphasis on math, science and technology help our students become problem solvers, critical thinkers, and effective collaborators. These skills will help our students succeed in high school, college, and beyond.

To help the Milwood Magnet School's Biotechnology Partners Program run efficiently, we have established an advisory board. The Biotechnology Partners Program is funded by the Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) grant and the advisory board was developed to help us sustain the program after the grant is over. The goals of this board are to:

Phase I: 2008 - 2009 implementations, year two of MSAP grant

  • Establish representatives from at least five local biotech companies.
  • Execute six partnerships for the classroom.
  • Design and host Biotechnology Career Day at Milwood Magnet School.

Phase II: 2009 - 2010 implementations, year three of MSAP grant

  • Establish partnerships with at least 15 commitments.
  • Create and implement Biotechnology Internship Program for 20 eighth graders.

Phase III: 2010 - 2011 implementations, MSAP grant cycle ends

  • Establish community-to-work/education program for parents and community.
  • Milwood Magnet School's Biotechnology Partners Advisory Board meets quarterly.
